Esmé Bergh

Accomplished Musician and Performer

Violin / Piano / Accordion

Esmé began her classical music journey at the age of six with piano, later adding clarinet to her growing repertoire. As a teenager, she developed a strong affinity for contemporary piano and organ, and by 16, she was performing regularly as a pianist and organist at church services, weddings, and special events.

At 19, she advanced her musical training, earning a Grade 10 Teacher’s Diploma in both piano and organ from the Alec Benjamin School of Contemporary Music.  She dedicated several years to teaching, passing on her skills and enthusiasm for piano and organ.

In 1997, Esmé emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, where she began exploring digital piano recordings. She also became an active member of a worship team, which deepened her appreciation for modern worship music.

Upon returning to South Africa in 2004, she expanded her musical horizons by formally studying the violin from 2013. Her training included both professional instruction and self-study through Violin Lab (USA). In June 2017, she joined the Rand Symphony Orchestra as a Violinist, performing with the ensemble until 2023.   Esmé achieved Grade 8 Theory with merit and Grade 8 Violin from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Her enthusiasm for learning new instruments continued with the accordion, which she began studying in 2022.

Esmé, founder of Music for the Soul, is a versatile musician specialising in soulful violin performances for weddings and special events. With a background in contemporary piano and organ and classical violin training, she creates elegant, emotive music both solo and in collaboration with other musicians.
